Requirements DOORS Manager

CSEngineering is looking to add a Requirements DOORS Manager to our growing team at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland! This position supports NASA by standardizing its requirements management.

CLIENT OVERVIEW

NASAʼs Goddard Space Flight Center is home to the nation's largest organization of combined scientists and engineers that build spacecraft, instruments and new technology to study the Earth, the sun, our solar system, and the Universe. Goddard currently has 26 spacecraft studying such important scientific areas as the moon, our shrinking polar ice caps and global weather. For years, each project reinvented the wheel for each new spacecraft and occasionally, requirements fell through the cracks. DOORS allows engineers to focus on building spacecraft, rather than requirements management. Requirements - and the justification for them - carry over from project to project. Before launch, NASA has a list of all the spacecraft's up-to-date requirements and proof that every single one of them has been satisfied. Effective requirements management ensures that such issues, which are critical in one sense of the word, never have the opportunity to become critical in a more dire sense of the word.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Each and every spacecraft NASA launches begins its life as a list of requirements, the specifications NASA needs the craft to fulfill. Those requirements define the spacecraft by defining its capabilities before anything else happens. By simplifying the use of IBM DOORS, a database that has since become NASA-Goddardʼs

default standard, to hold and track all requirements data. The first CSE-DOORS spacecraft, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, launched in 2009. Specific duties include:

  • Consult with National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA-GSFC) personnel on the most efficient use of IBM Direct Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), implementing requirements updates following approval process, and managing and maintaining DOORS databases.
  • Provide support regarding the DOORS application to project teams.
  • Monitor and maintain integrity of links during the development phases of programs.
  • Generate reports and analysis.
  • Coordinate and support all users of the requirements database.
  • Develop DOORS eXtension Language (DXL) scripts to generate reports and metrics for management and verification efforts
  • Use advanced features of Microsoft Word and Excel for document formation and management of document and requirement changes
  • Work with instrument and spacecraft DOORS counterparts to manage the synchronization of DOORS databases and transmission of verification information.
  • Troubleshoot DOORS problems.
  • Create and manage document generation templates using IBM Rational Publishing Engine (RPE) and/or Publishing (PUB)
  • Develop and implement common best practices for DOORS to support requirements management throughout the organization.
